IS IF A UNIVERSITY?

Not in the legal sense. However, as a charity with a remit to broaden access to a higher education in the humanities, IF is a “free university”. Free in terms of cost to our students, and free as in independent, radical, innovative. Part of a broader landscape of forward-thinking free universities across the UK, IF will strive to match the original ideal of a university as a community of learners and teachers.

ACCREDITATION?

IF courses are designed to correspond to the level of first-year undergraduate study, but they are not formally accredited within the UK or European accreditation schemes.

Students will receive certification of attendance and their participation in IF courses and activities.

IS IF JUST ANOTHER MOOC?

Not at all. The mass open online course (MOOC) movement has grown extensively in recent years and made freely available online a wealth of excellent academic material. But its users do not necessarily have a collegiate experience or the social excitement of intellectual discussion. IF will direct students to the best online material and provide opportunities for the cut and thrust of debate that has been at the heart of a university education for centuries.
